Family Mediation in Kent
Calm, structured mediation supporting separation, divorce and child arrangements in Whitstable and across Kent

A Structured Alternative to Court
A New Chapter Mediation provides family mediation in Kent through structured, confidential support for couples and families navigating separation and divorce. Based in Whitstable, I support clients across Kent with child arrangements and financial mediation, offering a constructive alternative to court proceedings.
Family mediation is a confidential and voluntary process that supports separating couples and families to resolve issues through structured discussion with an independent family mediator.
Mediation enables you to remain involved in decision-making and work towards practical, child-focused and sustainable arrangements.
It can help with:
• Child arrangements and parenting plans
• Divorce and separation discussions
• Financial and property matters
• Reducing conflict constructively
How Family Mediation Works
Step 1 — MIAM (Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting)
The process begins with an individual Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting (MIAM). This private meeting explains how family mediation works, explores your circumstances and assesses whether mediation is suitable.
In many cases, attending a MIAM is required before making a court application relating to children or financial matters.
Step 2— Mediation Sessions
If mediation is suitable and both parties agree to proceed, structured mediation sessions are arranged to address the issues that need to be resolved.
Sessions may focus on child arrangements, parenting plans, financial matters or other practical issues following separation or divorce.
Appointments are available online, in person in Kent, or via shuttle mediation where parties remain in separate rooms.
Step 3 — Recording Proposals & Next Steps
Where proposals are reached, outcomes can be clearly recorded. Clients are encouraged to obtain independent legal advice if agreements are to be made legally binding through the court.
Mediation aims to support practical, workable arrangements that reduce conflict and provide clarity for the future.
If you would like to find out more about MIAMs, or book an appointment to discuss whether family mediation is suitable for your circumstances, please get in touch.
